Aleppo's Tears

City of wisdom
Now broken into tears
As the white marble
Of this most ancient city of all
Changes its colors
Into red
Red blood
Of innocents
Who have not done any harm
Have only in their hearts
A tradition of so many years
Of so many tears
Of so many broken hearts
Give them peace
Give the city new lights
Let tears be not wasted
Let them give fruit
To a new beginning
For this once beautiful city
Let the suffering stop
Give Aleppo a new life

Freedom fighter
Who comes my way
I admire your courage
Your suffering
To give me back
The right to speak
The right to live
The right to be
Come and free me
Bring water for my mother
My little brother and my father
Please keep in mind
Defeating the evil enemy
Is but a first step
For to keep us alive
We need to rebuild
To replace the stones
In the destroyed schools
Welcoming teachers
And flowers
To the garden of life
